The Students Representative Council holds it's annual week celebration in the Second Semester of every academic year. Various activities are held within the long week celebration to mark a milestone in the life span of the SRC, for the 2018/2019 academic year, the SRC celebrates its 11th Year anniversary from 8th April 2019 to Friday 12th April 2019.

The 11th GIMPA SRC Week Celebration 2019 is under the Theme: "STUDENT LEADERSHIP: Activism or Partisan Politics". The theme for the celebration focuses on reflecting on the relevance of student leadership, its primary mandate and further to trace the play out of its function within the remit of it's formation and stated objectives.
On Tuesday 9th April 2019, the SRC will host a public lecture on the theme of the Celebration " STUDENT LEADERSHIP: Activism or Partisan Politics" under the Chairmanship of the Rector of the institute Professor Philip Ebi Bondzi-Simpson.

In recent times, student leadership has been betrothed to national political party who to a large extent influence choice of candidates,policy adoption and efficiency of the administration depending of the most favorable who gets to have the full armory of political party resources and support both in cash and logistics with the long term aim of materializing political party interests.

Student leadership as intended would have been a platform to sharpen skills of advocacy and activism without any political party color blindness, proactively seeking a collective welfare of the student union in direct consonance with realist students need with all efforts directed at legacy centered initiatives that is in the best case scenario is spearheaded by willing, competent, non-biased and validly elected student leader.
The two stated scenario above, find a competitive arena within the student leadership space of our tertiary institutions today. For which reason, the purpose of this public lecture will be to examine the two scenarios and possibly rightly place the ideal case to guide student leadership.
